Test performance: 2 populations with different disease prevalance

  • Positive Predictive Value (PPV): The probability that those returning a POSITIVE test result do in fact have the disease they have been tested for.
  • Negative Predictive Value (NPV): The probability that those returning a NEGATIVE test result do not have the disease they have been tested for.
  • Test Sensitivity (Sens): The ability of the TEST to correctly identify those with the disease. It’s the TRUE POSITIVE rate.
  • Test Specificity (Spec): The ability of the TEST to correctly identify those without the disease. It’s the TRUE NEGATIVE rate.
